Q-SYS Q Program

The "Q-Program" is based on an integrated set of principles that work with the BSA "Total Program Concept" method of Scouting.

In this Chapter an overview of programming techniques as well as specific details for each Unit Type will be discussed.

Overview

Scouting's aims are to produce future Leaders who possess a character as defined by the Scout Oath and Law. Now it is not totally possible for anyone to live to these high ideals all the time, we are all sinners, but the point of the program is to instill in our youth, goodness of heart, kindness, charity and a love of God and Humankind.

The "Total Program Concept" is designed to lengthen the stay for a child in Scouting. It involves, as outlined previously, a direct connection between Units within a Pack/Troop/Crew structure that keeps kids interested in the program and advancing upon the Scouting Trail.

The "Q-Overlay" to this BSA system is herein described in further detail by specific Unit type.

The "Q-System" thus further defines the "Total Program Concept" into a set of evolving stages of development that coincide with the basic structure of the BSA. The "Q-System" further strengthens the BSA concept by relating it's programs with Girl Scouting.

At this point in time Girl and Boy Scouting are still separate in the United States, each Group is an independent entity. Attempts were made at combining forces at a national level several years ago. We also tried in 2005 with our local Girl Scout Council. We came to the conclusion that the politics behind such a move is beyond this dissertation. The integration principle number 16 has been removed and is now called the "Missing Principle". While a good idea, we feel we are premature in introducing it. See the "Q-Doc" History Page on the "Q-Server". We do have some intersting thoughts but have met some opposition by the first (and only) Girl Scout Leader we tested the ideas on. Our hopes for girl integration remain high but we are taking a back seat to this "could-be" controversial subject. Others will have to deal with this integration.

Finally, the spiritual side of the equation and the importance of the Chaplain will be discussed.
