Closing Fantasy
By Don Starr
Year: 2035
Location: Camp Dudley Central Fire Ring
"There once was a Scout
named the Champion and one named the Contender. They were, as
you know, very good friends...."
"Get on with it!" an
impatient Scout shouted from across the campfire.
"Quiet please." said
another "These are good stories".
The Scoutmaster continued "Well
I know you guys have heard most of these old stories but this
one is about the Chaplain too".
"He was my Grandfather."
said another Scout.
"I know," said the
Scoutmaster "he would have wanted you to hear this one."
The Scouts knew stories about
the Chaplain were generally filled with cool stuff and life's
lessons. They didn't always like to hear them, but at times like
these, late at night, they seemed to hit the spot.
"Well the three of them
were gathered with the other Grandparent's of 'Q'," he continued
"right here at Dudley at this very campfire ring. It was
a cold October night and the fire warmed them nicely. The "Q-Server
only had a little over 3 million documents and at that point there
were only 350 or so members of the "Q-RIng".
"Wow, that was really a
long time ago." said another Scout.
"Not so long." continued
the Scoutmaster "Back then there was still a little buckthorn
here at Dudley and the river still was overrun by it. 344 had
just purchased the lake and property in Canada but there were
no structures there yet. A successful 6 tiered Unit system served
over 350 youth. Impressive in those days."
"The Chaplain said,"
continued the Scoutmaster "'I would like to offer a prayer
of thanks'.
'Here, here' chimed the crowd.
'Dear Lord,' the Chaplain had
said.
'God Bless 344 and it's Leaders
for your leading them to the discovery of a unique, yet time honored
Scouting Philosophy'.
'Bless those that surround us and let Scouting Flourish because
of our efforts'.
'We pray to you, in Jesus name'.
'Amen' they all said."
"You see," continued
the Scoutmaster "It was not anyone person who created the
'Q-System', it was the conglomerate effort of many individuals.
All those past Leaders can lay some claim to it, for it is the
combined efforts and cooperation of many good people that allowed
the original documentation to take place."
"So there is more to this
story?" exclaimed another Scout.
"Yes, much more, look around
you, much more indeed..." said the Scoutmaster slowly, "But
all in good time my young one, you see, we too have all become
quite good friends....."
"Amen!" said all thousand
of them.
We hope you had some fun with our journey and that
you can use some or all of the concepts in your program. Before
we review we'd like to leave you with the two final principles.
"Q-Principle" Twenty nine: Help your
neighboring Units succeed.
Do not fall prey to the power of 'Q". Once
you get things rolling there will be those who want to join you.
Be conscious of this and try to protect the existing Units in
your area. Include them in your events. People need options in
Scouting from which to choose from. If there are no options and
someone gets mad about something, there is no place for them to
go.
Integrate your neighboring
Units.
"Q-Principle" Thirty: Stick with it.
If at first efforts in any of these endeavors do
not succeed or take off, stick with it. Remember the saying "From
humble beginnings". We started small and moved slowly but
methodically. You can too. Think of longer duration goals than
you have been used to and set things up to withstand the test
of time. The "System of Q" helps you do this.
Integrate Longevity.

The Premise of "Q"
The "Q-Premise" stated again:
"By following the integrated 'System of Q', which encompasses
the ' BSA Total Program Concept', more youth can be served for
a longer period of time, resulting in better leadership for our
future".
We believe that the preceding document supports and proves the
original hypothesis stated above.
Our hopes are that others can benefit from our experiences. For
ideas on when and how to implement the "Quality System"
see the "Join-Us"
section that follows this conclusion. See "Q-Quotations"
for interesting things people have said about the "System".
What would we do without "Q"? |
